Jack Lovett-Hurst's road to the New York Marathon

Jack is a young man who lives life to the very fullest and has a dream of participating at the New York Marathon November 2017.

Southland

Jack lives with Muscular Dystrophy and is a wheelchair user.

Since 2015 Jack has had the dream of competing at the New York Marathon.

To achieve his dream and complete the 42km course Jack will use his custom built hand cycle.

Jack's stepfather Greg Houkamau has taken on the role of mentor/training partner and will be supporting Jack during the marathon.

Jack has recently finished attending Southland Boys High School and this year the focus is all around training and getting ready to compete.

Jack is no stranger to fundraising and in 2015 Jack cycled 21km and raised $1200.00 for the 1000 day Trust in Invercargill.

It has been confirmed by Achilles International NZ that Jack is 1 of only 2 NZ'ers with a hand cycle to get accepted.

I have known Jack for around 4 years. Jack is a great young man who I would like to get behind and support so that his dream can become a reality for him.

Use of funds

The funds raised will be to cover travel costs ,accomadtion , and the extra expenses of making sure that Jack has all the equipment required to participate safely in the Marathon.

Bout to live the dream 27 July 2017

As the momentum builds towards New York the focus shifts towards Jack’s fundraising event at the ILT Stadium Southland this Saturday, 29th July 2017.

The event kicks off at 6.30pm and it’s fair to say that it’s a showcase of musical talent featuring local musicians and an auction to raise money to help Jack achieve his dream.

Jack's good mate Brendon Pongia will be the nights MC.

A massive thanks goes to Rhonda Hoffman who has been the driving force behind the fundraiser.
